Associate Scientist, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS)

About the Role:

Stylus Medicine is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented Associate Scientist to join our Genome Engineering team. In this role, you will develop and execute sequencing workflows to support our Large Serine Recombinase (LSR) engineering platform and enable comprehensive, genome-wide characterization of our in vivo genetic medicines. Reporting to the Principal Scientist of Genome Engineering, you will play an integral role in advancing next-generation genome engineering technologies and transformative therapeutics.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities:

  • Conduct NGS workflows including nucleic acid extractions, library preparations, sequencing, and quality control (QC) protocols to advance our novel LSR engineering screening platform

  • Track comprehensive metadata to ensure data integrity across multiple collaborators and projects

  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate sequencing results to inform project direction in cross-functional collaborations

  • Work in close collaboration with the protein engineering team and immunology teams to ensure timely delivery against project deadlines

  • Aid in the development and on-boarding of cutting-edge NGS workflows

  • Maintain detailed and accurate laboratory records

  • Adhere to SOPs and best practices

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Master’s degree in molecular biology or a related field with 3+ years of relevant industry or academic experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with 5+ years of experience

  • Fundamental knowledge and hands-on experience with NGS based library preparations and sequencing

  • Demonstrated ability to execute, interpret, and troubleshoot NGS workflows

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams

  • Experience with the QC assessment of DNA/RNA including Tapestation, Qubit, Nanodrop, and qPCR

  • Experience with liquid handlers, Oxford Nanopore Technologies, and ddPCR is preferred

  • Experience with assessing genome-editing is a plus

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, multitask effectively, and maintain strong written documentation
